February 2nd 2010

MEGA UPDATE!

Hope everyone had a Happy New Year Celebration etc etc etc, Chinese New Year Coming Up! This is the date that we base our explosive comeback on!

It's been a very intense time for us over the last few months. Massive changes have began to take place within the band, not only with members of the band but our musical direction and what we actually want from the band.

To start the new year, me and Gavin have built our own studio in Kwai Hing. Gong Wu studios is our new home, built with our own bare hands we have gutted and remade one of the most baddass studios in Hong Kong. We have however, ran out of money, so until we can afford it, it will stay in it's current state! You can find more pictures of our studio on our facebook page!

The new studio has the ability to record so this is where our new album will be laid down over the coming months.

We unfortunately have to hold back on playing live until we have new material. So you guys might not see us on the scene for a little while.

We have chosen to focus on our live show and forget about cheesy commercial music. Our sound is developing right now, you may have had glimpses of it with songs like Strip It and Paint Red Love. Expect a fresh new sound to emerge over the coming months.

We'd also like to announce the departure of Larryz from the current lineup.

He's a great guy, we're still friends, however with his current work schedule. We we're in a position to try and find someone who can work with us in the daytime as what we intend to do requires the insane devotion only a fool could commit to.

We wish Larry the best and we begin our searches for new members of the band who can commit to an intensely time consuming workload.

We intend to write music solely for rocking the hell out live. We're not interested in radio play or mtv.

We simply want to be the best entertaining live show in Asia.

So with a bold statement like the one above, we really need to sit in the studio and do our homework.

So it's gonna be a lot of work but we hope to bring you guys a new experience you'll never forget.

We're bringing real music back to the world not this contrived wishy washy crap that is saturating the world right now.!

Hopefully see you guys on the road as soon as we feel we're ready.

Gong Wu will be bigger and more intense than ever!

We sorrowfully inform our fans that we did not get selected by Linkin Park's Management to play with them at the Cotai Arena this Sunday regardless of our actually winning the voting system. We thank all of you for the time you took to vote and for your belief in our band.

Next time a big band comes through Hong Kong / Macau expect us to go through the right channels and secure another support show with one our favourite bands. If the RHCP or GnR come to town, expect us to kill for their support slot!

Your votes however, were not in vain as we will use the publicity Alive Not Dead gathered for themselves to show the local promoters our fans believe in us and that we have the support to succeed.

We sincerely thank our fans for your support throughout the competition. We felt proud to have so many people come forward to fight for us!

The good news

We have just added new live show dates. Apart from one show, there is an opportunity for our fans to get into the shows for free!

Please come onto our facebook page and contact us to find our more about getting into them for free!

We'll be very busy the next few months, we will be recording a pro music video for one or two of our songs, filming at the Asia Expo for Stage-tube.com and planning on recording another new record of brand new material!

Come over to facebook and get interactive with us.

Thanks to all the fans who sent out their votes in support for us for the Linkin Park support contest! Every vote mattered in the end and we managed to secure a top 5 position! Thanks to all the bands who were also good sports and made it a lot of fun! Respect to the HK scene! Respect to all the Local Talent!

The competition to play with Linkin Park this month at the Venetian has begun! So far there has been some very interesting results and the leaderboards are more than suprising! If you haven't voted already please go to www.alivenotdead.com/linkinparkcontest and vote for us!

I'd also like to take this time to introduce Larry Cheung! He is the guitarist in the video and kicks total ass don't you think? We'll have an official party later on to celebrate his joining! To also celebrate Larry joining we will be booking tonnes of shows all over Hong Kong this month! So we should be back on the road imminently!

Remember to find our page on facebook where we keep up to date 24 hours a day!

Firstly RIP to Michael Jackson. We are all totally gutted at the loss of the best music performer of all time. We all hope he finally found his peace and if there's a heaven, then it's called Neverland.

Secondly ARMANI ROCKED LAST NIGHT!!! Thanks to everyone who turned up to see us! I've never seen Armani Bar so full and also rocking the hell out! Proving that there is people in Hong Kong who still love music! Rockers, Bankers, Models, black, white, yellow all headbanging in unison. Michael Jackson would be so proud! I hope he liked our covers of Billy Jean / Smooth Criminal in his memory!

Remember you can find us all over facebook now, which has become every musicians best friend over the last year or so.

Our next show is scheduled for July 26th for Tom Lee on Tsim Sha Tsui Harbourfront! It all kicks off around 12pm and we headline at around 5pm! The best thing is, IT'S FREE AND OUTDOOR! Hope to see you there!

MUSIC MATTERS 2009

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Chris B from the Underground and Kate Sullivan from Speak Up for championing us to play Music Matters 2009. Not only did we have a blast legally screaming obscenities into the faces of music bosses, we also loved playing for a crowd that loves to ROCK!

I somehow managed to break the musicians code this morning and awoke at 10am to attend the Music Matters 2009 conference. It was great meeting so many successful managers and label people, and moreso, obtaining more of an insight into the extraordinary and bizarre Asian Music Industry. I can only describe what I experienced by describing what it must be like being a puny mortal being given a glimpse of life in hell. So Exciting :)

Next up THE HK UNDERGROUND CD LAUNCH PARTY ON SATURDAY AT THE CAVERN!

We've also just confirmed playing for an ARMANI Event on June 26th! It's gonna rock!

A new version of "Hand That Feeds" is available to download from the multimedia section of the website. The old version had a really annoying click at the beginning that I neglected to hear on bouncing the song down! Because of my copious and tedious amount of current free time I have also been given the will to actually get back into the song and remix it slightly so to make it, as we say in Hong Kong "More Good".

Also we've added some more press clippings to the press section and I intend to keep this section more up-to-date with reviews and features we get through the rest of the year.

I'll be uploading another new song very soon. I've spent the last couple of days writing and arranging a new song currently titled "Live Forever" It's obviously my favourite song yet, has a groove smoother than a criminal and an infectious chorus, best of all it sounds easy to the ear yet is rediculously hard to play on all instruments so I can imagine the tekkies out there will love it too.

Who says that putting too much widdle in can spoil music. Oh yeah, I always do.. Ah well!

Also "Back of the Line" and "Sugar" have been sent over to Koya at Mark 1 Studios for a mastering session. I'm interested to hear what Master Koya san can do to my rough and oldschool style of music mixing!

We've got a photoshoot with G-Tox planned for mid week and hopefully we'll get some cool pictures to upload onto this website and all 13535324 other personal Gong Wu profiles across the interweb.

A Belated Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to all Gong Wu Fans Worldwide!

We have been busying away laying down our new tracks to try and complete our first album by the end of February! Expect crashing riffs, funky slaps and screaching galore! The Bio section has been updated with a little more on Lawrence and Andrew, with more updates and shows coming over the next few months, it'll be a busy time for Gong Wu. Let's make 2009 the year that HK gets it's balls back and ROCKS THE HELL OUT!

October 5th, 2008

Due to recent PK crackdown activities, Gong Wu was forced underground for the last 2 months.. Li went into hiding in the UK and all other members also went into exile.

The heat is off, Li is back and has been reunited with the surviving heavyweight champion that is G-Ho. Unfortunately after numerous underground communications no word was ever heard again from Joe and Masaki. We heard rumours that they'd been picked up somewhere outside of Ho Chi Min with shaved heads trying to blend in with rice pickers, unfortunately the tattoos covering Masaki's entire body and the can of Carling in Joe's hand gave them away immediately. We wish them all the best, wherever they are and whatever they're doing. We just hope the local PK go easy on them with those big black truncteons!

For whoever of you that got the invite yesterday Gong Wu played a secret show last night with Grin at Backstage!

On the Guitars we'd like to officially welcome the incredible Andrew Bautista! Possibly the biggest, meanest and loudest guitarist in Hong Kong.

On the Drums we'd like to officially welcome the almighty Lawrence Tsui (My brother by surname!) he has by far the biggest sei cap collection in Kwai Hing, nuff said.

In the space of 4 hours we managed to learn and play 9 tracks last night.

Whoever came down last night was in awe of the sheer power eminating from the stage.

We tore that place apart!

We are back, we are meaner, louder and more pissed off than ever!

PREPARE FOR GLORY!

August 3rd, 2008

WHAT A GREAT EFFIN SHOW! Thanks to Re:spect Magazine for putting together by far the best live show we've played as a band thus far! A full heavy sweaty crowd going apeshit to the tinitus inducing noise that is GONG WU! Thanks to all the crazy people who we're jumping along with us! You made it a night to remember!

This is our last gig booked until October. We hope to record a new record sometime in September! Expect it to be bigger, bolder and louder than ever!

Li and the G W Crew

July 12th, 2008

We've had a blast playing the last few shows! Thanks to everyone for turning up to Tuesdays show with Djizoes! They rocked! And so Chris B's new band Cockfight!

Last night we played Fringe with our buddies FBI who tore it up with their "Man Love" and we even managed to get a mosh pit going! something the Fringe Club rarely sees! We also dropped in a couple of covers for last night's set which everyone seemed to enjoy!

We have just confirmed new dates for August.

1st August @ The Fringe Club (this is our night and expect it to be a big one more details TBA!)

3rd August @ Backstage with Re:spect Magazine.

Unfortunately due to work commitments we have had to pull out of the IVE show and the Chainsaw show on the 12th and the 26th of July, something we hate to do to our fans but completely unavoidable! We hope to make it up to you all soon at another one of our shows!

Once these shows are complete we will be taking time out to continue writing better songs and hopefully be back in the studio to record a new EP!

Remember you can also now find us on Facebook! Just search for Gong Wu!
